THE AMAZING AMAZON REGION



           

The Amazon region or the jungle, is located to the east of the Andes, it is also considered the most biologically rich area on earth. There are countless varieties of flora, including more than 4,500 species of orchids, and many plants with medicinal value. Wildlife such as butterflies, monkeys, parrots, macaws, river dolphins and caimans are all relatively easy to view.




The Ecuadorian Amazon offers a wide range of activities including swimming, canoe trip, hike through the rainforest, bird watching and visits to local communities in the jungle.


            



It has about 5% of the total population but here are small communities of Indians such as Huaorani, Cofan, Shuar, and Siona-Secoya who live in jungle villages and continues with many of its ancient traditions.

  • Morona Santiago: Seco of Guanta maito of guanta, cassava and Cheese Tortilla
  • Napo: Trout, Chonta chicha, chicha de yuca, maito for tilapia, maito of carachama, chontacuro and cachama soup. 
  • Orellana:chicha  for cassava and chontacuro .
                            
  • Pastaza: chicha  Ceviche palmetto, mushroom ceviche, ceviche volquetero and conch ceviche.
                                                
  • Sucumbios: chicha  Ayampaco, guanta roasted cassava fritters, armadillo, fried cassava and sugarcane chicha.
  • Zamora Chinchipe:chicha  Frog legs, begonia, and ayampaco fried tilapia.
